Michael Malik is a managing partner in casino development group – BarWest Gaming, which is working with the Los Coyotes Band of Cahuilla and Cupeno Indians of Warm Springs California, to help secure the Tribe’s ability to develop and open a gaming enterprise in the City of Barstow. As a managing partner, he is in charge of the day-to-day operations of the company, working closely with the Los Coyotes, federal, state & local officials and potential vendors.
Mr. Michael Malik is a successful entrepreneur in the gaming, sporting and entertainment industries. He initiated his career as a consultant and developer in Indian gaming during 1980’s and partnered with North American Gaming (NAG). Mike Malik has become a pioneer since 1988 in the casino development industry, including big projects in California, Michigan, and New York. He has been dedicatedly involved in bringing gaming to multiple communities, and continues to seek investment and development opportunities in the entertainment and gaming industry.
Detroit Casino Development
The year 1996 saw NAG teamed with Atwater Entertainment to support the passage of a Michigan statewide proposal facilitating the development of three commercial casinos in Detroit. Michael Malik played a vital role as a partner with NAG, aimed at the statewide ballot effort to bring casino gaming to Detroit, Michigan. The passage of the proposal recognized Detroit as the first urban area in the country to open commercial casinos. After the passage of this proposal, Malik worked with state elected officials to negotiate and execute the regulatory oversight framework for the Detroit casinos.
Mike Malik, a partner in the casino group Detroit Entertainment also included Marian Ilitch and more than 130 local partners. Detroit Entertainment selected Mandalay Bay Group as casino operator and Michael Malik played a central part in the development of the casino project that is now called as MotorCity Casino. The entertainment industry in Detroit today has exceeded $1.3 billion per year and Malik has played an imperative role in securing the best management teams in the country.
Native American Gaming
Michael Malik has also helped to develop a casino for the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians in Manistee in northwest Michigan. He handled aspects like site selection and land acquisition, construction firm selection, management selection, assistance in obtaining a gaming compact and establishing casino operations. The Little River Casino today is the third most lucrative Indian owned and operated casino of the 19 located in Michigan.
The Tribe was assisted by him for the legislative approval process for obtaining the first gaming compact in Michigan. Malik has also assisted in the establishment of two casinos, a hotel and a golf course for the Bay Mills Indian Community in Brimley, Michigan.
Michael Malik is a managing partner in casino development group – Gateway Casino Resorts, L.L.C., which is working with the Shinnecock Indian Nation of Long Island, New York, to secure the Nation’s ability to develop and open a gaming enterprise. Being a managing partner, he is in charge of the day-to-day operations of the company, working closely with the Shinnecock Nation, federal, state & local officials and potential vendors.
Malik is also working with the Bay Mills Tribe to develop a casino in Port Huron, Michigan. He is the managing partner in the casino development group BarWest L.L.C., and is working with the Los Coyotes Band from San Diego County, California to construct and operate an excellent casino complex in Barstow, California.
Other Business Interests
As an owner of MJM Enterprises and Development, Michael Malik is involved in a spectrum of development projects that deals with hunting and fishing preserves, oil and gas development, financing touring entertainment acts and developing projects for business expansion.
Mike Malik also owns Paradice Hunt Club in Gladwin, Michigan. Paradice is a premiere wild game preserve that houses approximately 1000 acres of pristine property, which holds every type of natural habitat Michigan has to offer for fishing and hunting. The club has also been rated the #1 whitetail hunt club in the United States and is featured on many outdoor television shows. Malik also developed Wildlife Genetics, a company that deals in hunting and outdoor products.
Malik is also the owner of Grande Pointe Development, which is currently in the process of developing 348 home luxury water fronts on Harsens Island in Clay Township, Michigan. He developed many commercial projects and he also specializes in larger projects such as resort and casino development, retail shopping malls, urban development and industrial parks. Malik and Ilitch are also involved in working with other resort island destinations.
With a career spanning more than 30 years in real estate development and licensed brokerage, Michael Malik is one of the first 26 brokers in Michigan that are licensed in securities and exchange real estate.
